How It Started
Funny story…my husband actually asked me if I was okay with homeschooling our [future] children when we were just dating! So if you want to know where it all started…it started with him. Charles attended a homeschool conference when he was single and realized how amazing it would be to teach your children individually and uniquely. Charles, being so cute, I couldn’t say no. I had no idea what I was signing up for, but now I’m so thankful I trusted him with this decision. We’re only now starting, but so far we’re loving it.
Why We Homeschool
1- We feel called by God to do so
2- We want to be the ones to spend the most time with our children
3- We feel we can give them the best individual, accelerated & diverse Christian education
4- We sometimes travel for my husbands business and we enjoy the flexibility the schedule provides
5- We want all our children to spend a lot of time together verses being separated often
How We Do It
I read a book that changed my mind about how children learn best and have since taken a slight Charlotte Mason approach to learning [more or less]. Mason believed “Education is an Atmosphere, a Discipline, a Life.” Essentially, I focus on allowing the children to learn naturally and tangibly verses only through a textbook [using heavy reading, art and music]. Most of all, we learn by being outside and into nature. Which works out perfect with three boys! Ultimately, our greatest daily focus is on The Lord and cultivating His character in our daily lives and relationships.
